Not just limited to sporting events many concerts have been held over the years and even Pope John Paul II held a mass here during his 1986 visit.
The MCG is host to the AFL from April to September and after the AFL Grand Final the MCG prepares for Cricket Season which usually starts at the end of September / early October and runs till the end of March. The MCG hosts both international and national Cricket Matches and it is also home to Australia’s National Sports Museum.
Holding up to 100 000 people and with other famous Australian sporting events being held throughout the year, such as the NRL State of Orign Football, the MCG was named in 2005 as one of ‘the Seven Wonders of the Sporting World’.
