As the name suggests, the Sydney Harbour Bridge sometimes called ‘the Coat Hangar’, spans Sydney Harbour, also known as Port Jackson, in New South Wales. Getting to the bridge is quite easy as it is an integral part of Sydney’s transport infrastructure. About the Sydney Harbour Bridge
Being officially opened in 1932 the Sydney Harbour Bridge took 6 years to build, it spans 1149 meters and its arches span 503 metres and just over some 6 million rivets were used in its construction. The bridge has been used in many famous movies and books over the years and was an iconic centre piece in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. Every New Year’s Eve celebration it acts as a backdrop for an awesome fireworks display.
The bridge way now carries 8 lanes for vehicles, foot way, cycle way as well as 2 train lines and according to the Guinness World Records it is the world’s widest long span bridge.
